I’ve been meaning to get back to this little blog for some house updates, but it seems every spare moment I get, I end up working on something else in the house, so the blog has just been taking a backseat to getting things done. My to-do list/wanna-do list is never ending around here. We make lots of trips to Home Depot. Thankfully, it’s only 5 minutes from our house.
Two days after Christmas, my mom and Rudie flew up to help us get settled in. We hugged them, thanked them immensely for coming, and then put them straight to work. Rudie knows electrical thingamajiggers, so he helped Tim switch out light sockets and install ceiling lights in the kid’s rooms. (Is it a northern thing that there are no light fixtures in the bedrooms? Weird.)
Tyson got some training in electrical work too.
While they were working on lights, my mom was watching kids, washing laundry, cooking meals, and cleaning, and I spent three days straight painting all the bedrooms various shades of gray. (Have I mentioned that I like gray?)
When we moved in, every wall, ceiling, all the trim, baseboards, and every door was painted in the exact same cream color. It made everything look blah and dingy.
So before I could paint any of the bedroom walls, I painted the baseboards, kid’s closet doors, and all the window and door trim in Behr’s Ultra White in semi-gloss. Painting all the trim work in a bright white makes a big difference in the overall look and feel of the room. Although it’s no fun to do it, it’s definitely worth the work and hassle of just getting it done.
We still need to get some things hung up on the walls and find curtains for most of the windows, but the bedrooms are coming along nicely and it’s starting to feel more and more like home around here.
I’ll take you on a little tour of that part of the house.
Here we go.
